Banner Module

Last Updated: Tuesday 1st September, 2009

A Banner module is used to manage the images used in a banner. In this tutorial, we will show you how to upload images and set their clickthrough links in the GLU Rich Media Management System (GLU RMMS).

Configuring a Banner module

To enter the configuration screen for the Banner module, you must first log into the GLU RMMS and go to the "Manage" section where your projects and modules are set up. Select a Banner module you've created and click the "Configure" button at the bottom right hand of the screen.

062

You will then be taken to the Banner module's configuration screen where you can start setting up the banners.

063

As you can see, the list is empty, indicating that no banners have been set up. In the next section, we will show you how to start adding new banners for the Banner module.

Adding a new banner

To add a new banner, follow the steps below:

1. click the "+" button at the bottom of the list and an "Add Banner" window will appear.

2. click the "Browse" button and select an image from the File Explorer window that appears.

3. enter a title and are description in the Title and Description input fields. However, these are optional but it's always a good pratice to enter them.

4. enter a url into the Link input field that you would like this image to launch when clicked on.

064

5. finally, click the "Save" button to commit the changes, and you should see your image uploaded and the new banner shown in the list.

065

Repeat steps 1 to 5 to add more banners, and your screen should look similar to this:

066

In our example, we have added five banners and provided a different url for each one of them.

Updating banner settings

The banners you usually see on the Internet are either rotating or non-rotating. Rotating banners usually show one image for a set number of seconds and then the next, and so on until the last one is reached. Then, the first image is shown again and the loop continues. Non-rotating banners usually show the single image throughout the live of the visit. Also, when a particular banner is clicked, the associciated url is usually launched in a new browser. You can capture these information in the Banner module and retrieve them using the BannerConnector component when building you Flash banner.

To configure these settings, click the "Settings" button at the bottom right hand of the banner list and an Edit Settings window will appear. There are three options available to be set:

Option Description
Randomize Tick this checkbox if the banners should appear in random orders, otherwise, un-tick to keep them in the order uploaded
Open in new popup window Tick this option if the url associated with the banner clicked should be launched in a new popup window
Frame Interval The number of seconds a banner should be displayed before the next one is shown. The default value is 5 seconds

067

Once you have set these options, click the "Save" button to commit them.

Ordering banners

Once you've added the banners, they can be re-ordered simply by dragging and dropping them into the appropriate positions.

Updating a banner

You can also change the banner image or any of the input fields by following these steps:

1. select the banner you wish to update and click the "Edit" button at the bottom of the list.

2. an "Edit Banner" window will appear, and you can change any of the input fields including uploading another image.

3. press the "Save" button to commit the changes.

Deleting a banner

You can delete a banner by simply selecting it and clicking the "-" button at the bottom of the list. A warning message will appear. Click the "Yes" button to proceed and delete the banner.

That's pretty much it for a Banner module. It's pretty straight forward so hope you'll find it easy too.
