News Module

Last Updated: Tuesday 1st September, 2009

The News module in the GLU Rich Media Management System (GLU RMMS) is used to manage a list of news articles for a Flash website. In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a new news article and publish it so it becomes immediately available online.

Configuring a News module

The News module manages news articles, and each news article is basically a page of text and/or asset. If you haven't read the Configuring a SimplePage module tutorial, it is recommended you familiarize yourself with the SimplePage module before continuing this tutorial as entering the content for a news article is very similar to entering content for a SimplePage.

To configure a News module, you must first log into the GLU RMMS, then enter the Manage section by clicking the "Manage" button at the top right hand corner of the screen. Select one of the News modules you have created and click the "Configure" button.

085

Once you've entered the News module's configuration screen, you should see a list of news articles, a Search Panel at the top, and a Button Panel at the bottom.

086

The Search Panel at the top is for filtering particular news articles. You can select from the drop down box which property you want to search against, and enter the value in the Keywords input field. For example, if you wish to find all articles with the title starting with "Party", you would select "Title" in the drop down box and enter "Party" for the Keywords text field. And clicking the "Find" button will commence the search. All matching news articles will then be shown in the article list.

Note that there is also a drop down box on the right hand side of the screen. This allows you to select the number of articles returned per page in your search results. By default, 20 results are returned at a time.

087

The Button Panel at the bottom allows you to Add, Edit, or Delete news articles. The Back and Next buttons are for navigating between pages if the number of results returned span more than a page. You can also jump to a specific page by entering the page number in the text field between the Back and Next buttons.

Adding a news article

To add a news article, follow the steps below:

1. click the "+" button in the Button Panel at the bottom and the Article Details page should appear.

088

As you can see, the user interface for the news article page is very similar to that of the SimplePage's except for two new fields, Status and Time/Date.

The Status drop down box contains three values, New, Published, and Archived. When an article is first created, it is set to New by default and is not visible or searchable by the NewsConnector. It's only when the status is switched to Published that it becomes "live". You can "archive" a news article when you no longer want it to be searchable.

You can also specify the time and date of the news article by selecting their values in the corresponding drop down boxes or the date chooser.

2. enter the title, author, description, and any additional contents of the news article. We will set the article status to "Published" so it'll become available immediately. As this is similar to the SimplePage module's user interface, please refer to the Configuring a SimplePage module tutorial for more details. We will just go ahead and add some text and images here.

089

3. click the "News Module" link at the navigation bar to return to the previous screen where all news articles are listed. Refresh the list by clicking the "Find" button in the Search Panel and the new article should appear in the list.

Updating a news article

To update an existing news article, simply find and select it in the article list in the News Module screen, then press the "Edit" button in the Button Panel at the bottom of the page. You will then be taken to the Article Details screen where you can update the articles details.

Deleting a news article

To delete a news article, simply find and select it in the article list in the News module screen, then press the "-" button in the Button Panel at the bottom. A warning message will appear. Click the "Yes" button to proceed and delete the selected news article.

That's all about the News module. Make sure you also check the related tutorials for other GLU modules:
