SimplePage Module

Last Updated: Tuesday 1st September, 2009

A SimplePage module in the GLU Rich Media Management System (GLU RMMS) is usually used to manage content on a page-style user interface. In this tutorial, we will show you how to set up a page and create some Content Blocks and upload some images to an Asset Block.

Configuring a SimplePage module

To start configuring a SimplePage module, you must first log into the GLU RMMS, then enter the Manage section by clicking the Manage button at the top right hard of the screen. Select one of the SimplePage module you have created and click the "Configure" button.

Once you've entered the SimplePage configuration screen, you should see several input fields and a button panel at the bottom.

The Title, Author, and Description fields hold the generic information about the page. Very often, if you do not require any assets such as images or videos on the page, these fields would be more than adequate. However, if you wish to organize your page a bit better and group them into paragraphs, you can add Text or Asset blocks in the Content list. It's entirely up to you how you'd like to display your page from the data set up in the SimplePage module. As an example, we will show you how to create a page with a mix of Asset and Text blocks.

Entering generic page information

To enter the page title, author, or description, follow the steps below:

1. press the "Edit" button to enable editing in these fields. You will notice the "Edit" button is now replaced by "Cancel" and "Update" buttons.

2. enter you text into any of the Title, Author, or Description fields. Note that you can enter HTML formatted text in these fields.

3. press the "Update" button to commit your changes.

Adding Content Blocks

We use the term "Content Block" to represent, well, a block of content. Whether it's text only, or with some images, they are related. The easiest way to visualize this is to imagine different sections in a page. You may have several paragraphs for a topic, and another for another topic. We would group these into two separate content blocks in case different formatting is required in your user interface design.

Currently, the SimplePage module supports two types of content blocks, Text-only and Asset blocks. Text-only blocks obviously hold text only while Asset blocks can include images, videos, audios, or other types of files.

Anyway, when you create a new news article, you must first enter and save the generic information such as the title before any Content Blocks can be associated with it. To add a Text Block, follow these steps:

1. click the "Add Text" button in the button panel at the bottom and an "Add Text" window will appear.

2. enter some text in the text field.

080

3. click the "Save" button when you finsih to save the changes. You should see your Text Block added to the Content list.

081

Similarly, to add an Asset Block, follow the steps below:

1. click the "Add Asset" button in the button panel and an "Add Asset" window will appear.

2. click the "Browse" button to open the File Explorer and select an image to use as the asset.

3. enter some text for the caption.

082

4. click the "Save" button to commit the changes and you should see your Asset Block added to the Content list shortly after the image is uploaded.

Updating Content Blocks

You can update the content of a Content Block anytime by selecting it and pressing the appropriate "Edit" button for the block. E.g., if you select a Text Block, press the "Edit Text" button. If you select an Asset Block, click the "Edit Asset" button. The corresponding "Edit" window will appear and you can make your changes in the relevant fields. Make sure you press the "Save" button to commit your changes.

Deleting a Content Block

To delete a Content Block, simply select it in the Content list and click the "Delete" button in the button panel. A warning message will appear asking for your confirmation. Click the "Yes" button to proceed and delete your select Content Block. Please note that this cannot be reverted. Once you've deleted your Content Block, you cannot retrieve it.

And that's all about the SimplePage module. to retrieve these data from your Flash project, you would use a SimplePageConnector component. Please refer to the Livedocs for more information.
